Speeding, Vehicle & Traffic
What’s in the fine print?
It comes as a surprise to most people to learn that their Driver’s License can be revoked by DMV if they are convicted of three speeding offenses or traffic misdemeanors (or any combination of the two) in an 18-month period. Some insurance companies will raise premiums substantially for just one speeding conviction.
Most vehicle and traffic violations, including speeding, can be resolved through negotiations and without a trial. In such cases, you will never have to go to court. The matter can usually be resolved through the mail.
Most negotiated results are better for the driver than a sentence after a guilty plea to the original ticket.
The consequences of conviction can result in fines, increased insurance rates, and/or license revocation. A jail sentence can be imposed for any speeding offense in excess of 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. If alcohol is involved, penalties can include substantial jail time.
The cost of hiring a lawyer can be far less than the long-term costs of increased insurances, fines, and/or loss of your license. For specific information about the penalties, contact our office.
